Alternatives to Violence Project Comic Story

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) mission is to empower individuals and communities to lead nonviolent lives, reducing violence through experiential workshops that foster affirmation, respect, community building, cooperation, and trust. Founded in prisons and utilizing volunteer-led, interactive workshops, AVP helps participants manage conflict peacefully.

I helped create this comic to humanize the mission of AVP through a comic about an at-risk boy, Marcus. Scripting, storyboarding, and illustration are all my work. I consulted with AVP leaders and listened to several interviews with facilitators in the program. Their input helped me address blind spots or gaps in my knowledge and make sure the story felt both authentic and inspiring.
